A Non Domestic Energy Assessor will collect data about the building and its services and enter it into Government approved computer software to produce an EPC. This includes:

๏   The building: The orientation, the type of construction and materials used in the fabric of the building will be assessed for their thermal transmission values, this includes walls, floors, roofs, glazing and doors.

๏   Usage: The building will be assessed for its general use as well as the differing uses of its subsidiary parts. Buildings will be zoned according to these uses and assessed separately.

๏   HVAC: The heating, ventilation and cooling systems used within the building will be assessed, data about the type and efficiency of each system, the type of fuels used and the metering and control of each system will be collected by the assessor.

๏   Lighting: The type of lighting throughout the building will be assessed along with the lighting control systems in place.

๏   Energy generation: Energy, be it in the form of heat or power generated by energy generation technology (such as solar heating, wind turbines etc) will be assessed and deducted from the buildings total energy requirements for heating, water heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting.

Equipment and the energy used by the occupiers processes will not be assessed, these include such items as refrigeration, machinery and tools etc etc.
